Trimester Zero: What is it & does it actually matter for Fertility?
If you’ve seen “Trimester Zero” all over your social media lately… same. So let’s talk about it.
What is Trimester Zero?
Trimester Zero refers to the 3 months before conception, also known as the preconception period. In the fertility space, this is when the egg and sperm quality are being shaped, and the body is preparing for pregnancy.
What does the science say?
There is evidence to support the theory because we know that preconception health matters (in fact, it matters a lot). We know that certain nutrients and lifestyle choices support sperm and egg quality, play a role in implantation and conception and influence inflammation.
What is the reality?
While the science is all there and very true, these trends often aren’t helpful, as they turn that science into real fear. You don’t need to follow the “perfect” diet, cut out core food groups or take a handful of supplements a day. If this is something you are interested in or concerned about, please see clear guidance and individualised support that fits your specific needs.
While yes, the 3 - 6 months leading up to conception are important, please make sure you are taking your advice from qualified experts.
If you’re trying to conceive, preparing for IVF, or simply want to optimise your preconception health, individualised support makes all the difference.
